Cultural Immersion Sports Trip to Penang
Dates: 29 May 2016 to 3 June 2016
A group of 60 pupils from various sports CCAs went on a Cultural Immersion Trip to Penang. As the pupils discovered the various culture and heritage of the state of Penang, it was also a great time for the pupils to find out more about their team mates outside of the CCA domain.
The sports trip would not have been meaningful if not for local exchange of ideas and tips. The pupils were dispatched to various schools where trainings were held by experienced local coaches. These coaches were very dedicated and spared no expense in trying to teach the pupils skills on how to improve. Our pupils also played friendly matches with their counterparts from Penang. Although they were formidable opponents, our pupils put up a good fight and took the opportunity to learn as much as they could. It was indeed an eye-opening learning experience for them.
Pupils also reflected on how fortunate we are to be living in prosperous Singapore when they visited the Lighthouse Home for the Poor. Pupils did their part for the community in Penang by putting in time and effort to clean the place and prepare dishes for residents of the Home. They even talked to the orphans and made cards for them. It was a good opportunity for them to reflect on how their actions contributed positively and brought smiles to one and all.
From the pupils’ written reflections, we could tell that they really enjoyed themselves. More importantly, they had learnt the importance of teamwork and being independent.
